Monday Updates

Lots of little stories tonight:

• Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott welcomed a daughter today. Stella Doreen McDermott is the second child for the couple. Doreen is actually the name of Dean's late mother. However, does anyone find it curious that's also the combination of Tori + Dean? Creepy!

• In sad news, journalist Martin Bashir, best known for conducting an in-depth interview with Michael Jackson a few years back, has a tumor on his pituitary gland.
  

• David Alan Grier may have the cutest child ever.
  

• Queen Latifah may finally be getting married to her longtime girlfriend. I'll believe it when I see it. We've been duped before.
  

• The TV Land Awards were on last night and all of your favorite stars from 20 years ago and a few of the new ones were out for the event. Best Week Ever has a great rundown of the night.
  

• I'm currently in the middle of The Mole. The older woman just had the quote of the night, "Thanks goodness I'm a fluffy lady."

Hump Day Update

There's no good on tonight so here's whats happening in TV news.

• Anderson Cooper had a cancerous mole removed from underneath his eye. Apparently the cancer hadn't spread anywhere else and he's doing just fine. I bet his hospital gown was Prada and gorgeous. That is one sharped dressed man.
  

• John Adams brought huge numbers for HBO. Apparently it's the best miniseries debut for the network since 2004. I watched the first and second segments and it really is fantastic, plus one of Adams' speeches to the Continental Congress felt very relevant for 2008.
  

• TV Land is re-branding itself as the network for 40-ish crowd. Their moving away from re-runs and running some originals targeted at this highly coveted demographic. None of them sound very good though.
  

Serenity Now! It's #100!

It's the 100th post. I'm a sucker for numbers. I consulted the other half for how to celebrate.

" Haha ok. Um how about 10 top lines in TV ever."

She presents a pretty tall order. I'm not old enough to remember nor appreciate some of the best lines this medium has to offer. TV Land took care of compiling the 100 Greatest Catchphrases of all time. However, they're old. Most of the characters mentioned were probably taped up in my mother's locker in high school. My list will be a little different. More current, not as classic, and will smell less like prunes and Ovaltine.

My Top Ten isn't made up of the Greatest Lines of All Time, just my favorites of the last two decades.

9. "Upload the schematics to my PDA." (Jack Bauer, 24)

America's TV Icons...For The Most Part

Viacom's solution to old people ,TV Land ,and Entertainment Weekly posted their list of the top 50 Greatest TV Icons. What's a TV icon? A personality who struts straight from the small screen and into your house. You speak about them on a one name basis. These people are best friends with America.

When you frame it like that, the list isn't that surprising. It includes everyone from Johnny Carson and Milton Berle to Ellen DeGeneres and John Stewart. However, a few celebrities snuck through that I am going to take issues with and a few I thought were left off.

• Larry Hagman: Dallas was huge. No one can negate that. But really? Top 50 TV icons of all time? Really? Too soon. Plus I preferred him on I Dream of Jeannie.

• Jennifer Aniston: Same story. Friends is funny and popular and she did have that haircut, but if I were to make a list of icons, she wouldn't crack my top 100. Or I would at least put her behind Larry Hagman.

• Alex Trebek & Pat Sajack: Neither of these men were in the top 50. Their presence in American homes for a combined 42 years is impressive. Their quick wit and ability to keep those game shows fresh is near miraculous.
